​Beginner Level (Foundation)

Goal: Learn the basics of instruments, rhythm, and simple bass lines.
  1. Introduction to Bass Guitar
    • Parts of the bass, tuning, holding, and posture
    • Role of bass in a band (rhythm + harmony foundation)

  2. Right-Hand Techniques
    • Fingerstyle (index & middle alternating)
    • Basic plucking exercises (open strings)
    • Muting techniques (left & right hand)

  3. Left-Hand Techniques
    • One finger per fret rule
    • Basic fretting exercises (chromatic runs)

  4. Rhythm & Timing
    • Quarter, eighth, and half notes
    • Playing with metronome/drum loops

  5. Basic Notes & Scales
    • Notes on E and A strings
    • First major scale (C major or G major)
    • Pentatonic scale basics

  6. Simple Bass Lines
    • Root notes following chord changes
    • Simple riffs (e.g., 2–3 note grooves)

  7. Play Along Songs (Beginner-friendly)
    • Rock, pop, or blues with simple bass lines

Intermediate Level (Developing Style)
Goal: Build technique, learn common patterns, and play real songs.
  1. Expanded Fingerboard Knowledge
    • All notes on the fretboard
    • Playing in multiple positions

  2. Scales & Arpeggios
    • Major, minor, pentatonic, blues scales
    • Triads & 7th chord arpeggios

  3. Rhythmic Development
    • Syncopation & rests
    • Sixteenth notes & simple rhythmic variations

  4. Techniques
    • Slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs
    • Basic slap & pop
    • Playing with a plectrum (if interested)

  5. Building Bass Lines
    • Connecting root notes with scale tones
    • Walking bass (basic blues/jazz style)
    • Groove building in different genres (rock, funk, reggae, R&B)

  6. Ear Training & Improvisation
    • Playing by ear (hearing root & simple patterns)
    • Jamming with backing tracks

  7. Song Repertoire
    • Intermediate-level songs with real bass riffs


Advanced Level (Mastery & Expression)
Goal: Develop versatility, improvisation, and personal style.
  1. Advanced Fingerboard Mastery
    • Modes of major scale (Dorian, Mixolydian, etc.)
    • Extended scales (harmonic minor, melodic minor)

  2. Complex Rhythms & Time Signatures
    • Odd meters (5/4, 7/8)
    • Polyrhythms & syncopated grooves

  3. Advanced Techniques
    • Slap & pop variations (double thumbing, triplet slap)
    • Tapping techniques
    • Harmonics (natural & artificial)
    • Chordal playing

  4. Improvisation & Soloing
    • Walking bass in jazz & blues
    • Soloing using scales, modes, and arpeggios
    • Creating fills & melodic variations

  5. Genre Mastery
    • Funk grooves (Marcus Miller style)
    • Rock/metal techniques (fast alternate picking, gallops)
    • Jazz walking & modal improvisation
    • Latin & world music bass patterns

  6. Music Theory & Composition
    • Chord substitutions, voice leading
    • Composing bass lines & solos
    • Reading & writing standard notation & chord charts

  7. Performance Skills
    • Playing in a band (locking in with the drummer)
    • Stage presence & dynamics
    • Recording techniques for bass
